Anyone that knows me, knows I am not an impulsive guy when it comes to purchasing big-ticket items. I tend to do loads of research, then make a selection based on feedback, product reviews, and lots of hands on testing. This Saturday I threw all of that out the window and did something I thought I would never do. Really.
Saturday morning Kristy had to turn in her Beetle convertible and she asked me to follow her to the Audi dealer for the hand off then drive her to the Mini dealership to pick up her 2010, 50th anniversary Mayfair edition Cooper S. This is where the trouble begins. You see I walked in to the showroom floor and there it was… a 2009 Cooper S convertible in Interchange yellow, JCW Aero Kit, 17 inch fan wheels, matte black rally stripes running from the front splitter to the back exhaust. Gray leather and interchange yellow pinstriped interior.
The car was stunning. The car had me hooked, and in a somewhat joking manner I said to Kristy’s sales person “I’ll buy it if you give me a good price on my 04 Cooper S”, then pointed to my car outside. I really didn’t think anything was going to happen here. I mean my car had been hit by a cab within the first year of owner ship and the residual value was blown from a bad Carfax, or so I thought. To my surprise I got a solid trade price on my car. This is due to the fact that it had very low miles and even though it had been hit the car looks almost brand new.
So yesterday, I went to talk money and incentives with the Mini folks. To make a long story short, I am the owner of a 2009 Cooper S convertible. And yes, I’ll be posting pictures and a full review of the car in the next couple of days. Many things have changed on the Mini in the last 6 years, and I think I need to spend a bit of time driving. Driving very very fast.
