Back in the day, I mean a long, long, long time ago, I was an avid skateboarder. You could say I was rather hardcore about it. from the age of about 15 to about 21 or 22, I lived it. I hit backyard half-pipes, skate parks, drainage ditches, abandoned reservoirs, empty swimming pools, or anything else that would allow me to try some crazy, possibly bone breaking stunt. That might be part of the reason that this video got me all excited. Riding in a half-pipe with projection mapped graphics flowing all over the place would have been so amazing back in the day.
Anyway this isn’t about me and my skateboard days, this is about the preview staging for Tron Legacy in Australia. This was produced by Eness for the movie, and was on display at the Melbourne Museum, in Melbourne Australia. This truly is the season of projection mapping because this stuff is now everywhere, but what I like about this is the way Eness has tied to the music, and the live action of the skaters in the half-pipe.
The graphics really work with the movie theme, and the music by Galapagoose is fitting. I hope we see a lot more of this over the next year as the software improves and the projection systems get better.
