When my house was built, all of the recessed lighting had Compact Florescent bulbs installed. I love the idea of using the highly efficient bulbs to reduce my energy consumption, but I hate the fact that the bulbs themselves are kind of dirty. By that I mean they are not easily recycled due to chemicals needed to make the bulbs work. This is why I have been waiting for an LED based bulb that would put out enough light that I could replace all of the Compact Florescent bulbs with.

Today at the 2011 LIGHTFAIR in Philadelphia Switch revealed its new LED bulb that produces the same amount of light as a 100 watt incandescent bulb, but uses far less energy, and features Switch’s integrated self cooling system trademarked “City of Light” for maximum light output. One of the things I really like about these is the fact that they are 100 percent recyclable, with all components used in the manufacturing process capable of being recycled, reused or reclaimed.

No word on pricing yet, but they are expected to hit store shelves in the next month.
