Pure Fun.

Mountain Surfer.

While watching the news this morning I saw the local weather prediction for next week. They are saying that this time next week the low temp is going to be somewhere around 16 to 18 degrees, and while colder than average, I shouldn’t be surprised since winter starts in about 6 weeks. According all the meteorologists this is going to be a pretty hard winter for the midwest, and rather than hating it, I’ve decided to try to embrace it. So what is the best way to embrace old man winter when you’d rather be someplace warm and sunny? You combine something like surfing with snowboarding with the ultimate ride.

The new Mountain Surfer by Jones Snowboards is designedby renowned San Diego surfboard shaper Chris Christenson. Mountain Surfer is a hand shaped, all wood snowboard that forgoes traditional bindings for removable hooks that you can choose to use or not. The hooks allow the rider to push their boots into  which helps improve board control while keeping the board locked to  your feet. At the same time, if you are an advanced powder surfer you can go naked with no hooks and try and get that real wave riding feeling like you are really surfing the side of your favorite mountain. The Mountain Surfer also features a foam traction pad for extra grip, and a leash to keep your board tethered to you for that occasional wipe out.

Action Cam Dog Mount

A few years ago I tried to mount a GoPro camera on my dog Cosmo. The results were less than stellar. Lets just say the footage made the “Blair Witch Project” look like it was shot with a steadycam rig. This morning a friend sent me a link to the “Action Cam Dog Mount” and I kind of want to give it another try. Maybe I could put together a whole series of videos with “CosmoVision”.

Action Cam Dog Mount is compatible with all major brand action cameras including GoPro, Contour, Sports-Vue, Drift, Intova, XTC, and Sony. The rig is fully waterproof, constructed of heavy duty nylon, features a durable and comfortable neoprene harness, with an adjustable mounting profile (high, low, back, forward). Action Cam Dog Mount is built with industrial strength clasps and webbing for durability even in the most rugged conditions (chasing squirrels through the park in Cosmos case).

Toddler Food Trucks from OTO

What a fun toy idea for kids. OTO is making food trucks for pre-school kids from design company Blacklist. The truck is constructed out of recycled cardboard and printed with fun, lush, super detailed illustrations. After spending two years prototyping and promoting the idea on indigogo Blacklist and OTO are now at the point where the rucks are production ready! The cardboard food truck measure in at 40” x 36” x 24”. They are made from 100% recyclable materials and completely fun for your aspiring Cordon Bleu Kinder Chef.

Each truck was first modeled and rendered in 3D by HIFI3D, to achieve realistic shadings and reflections as well as an insane level of detail down to the last screw. After that, Blacklist’s designers draw the lettering and illustrations on top of the renders. Each truck features hand drawn typography that is printed along with other graphics in the final process as well.

Adobe Does the Bus Stop with Photoshop.

Now that Photoshop and Photoshopped are words and phrases in the dictionary, it’s pretty fun to see Adobe Photoshopping people in real time at a bus stop. What a great way to promote your product to people that probably never use it, but know what it is.

As part of a promotion for Adobe’s Creative Days, a Adobe put a Photoshop wizard in a van across from a bus stop. With the help of his camera man, unsuspecting victims, I mean participants were Photoshopped and they could see it as it happened using a digital adshel inside the bus stop itself.

Really fun, very clever. Way to go Adobe.

The Negotiation from Heineken.

This is just fun. Heineken created a hidden camera ambient campaign at a BO Concept store.  The stunt involved men, trying to convince their partner to buy stadium seats while shopping for furniture. I’m not going to give it away, but the video will put a smile on your face. I hope they publish out takes from this because I have a feeling those are just as good.

Almost but Not Quite. KLM Must See Map, no App.

KLM has been a big participant in promotional marketing campaigns grounded in social media for sometime. The video below shows the latest from the Dutch airline. The “Must See Map” is built on suggestions of things to do, and places to see from friends responses to a social media query. It asks the traveler to simply ask friends in their social network where they have been and what they have done, then gathers all of this information into a single source.

What is great about this campaign is the fact that KLM will send you a print on demand high-res physical map. What I don’t like is the fact that the map will take 3 weeks to arrive, and there is no dedicated smartphone app. The free online site does a great job of integrating with all of the major social network players, allowing the traveler to gather vast amounts of tips but offers no dedicated smartphone app.

While the physical map is a cool souvenir for your trip, and ties to all the places your socially networked friends tell you to go; it is quite surprising that KLM didn’t take this one step further. A dedicated app is much easier to carry and use than a physical printed map. A dedicated app allows for recommendations to come to you long after the map is printed. A dedicated app allows the traveler to post feedback on friends recommendations. A dedicated app, takes the concept to a whole new level, and extends use far beyond the interaction of the website.

KLM

This is a great concept, and I hope that KLM goes a little further with it. KLM currently has 10 apps that they have developed for the iPhone, so I could see them taking this to a whole new level. When they do, “Must See Map” will be a home run.
