idBrooklyn is a large-scale semi crowd sourced design project with a goal of creating the graphic identity of Brooklyn through community support. The project, which launched on kickstarter wants to setup a series of community-based workshops, with a website and a mobile app that will showcase icons of Brooklyn’s culture which will hopefully create the New York’s first community branded borough. I’m loving the icons I am seeing so far, and the screenshots of the free iPad app look promising. If I were a Brooklynite I’d participate for sure.
“In recent years Brooklyn’s culture has received national and international attention due to its booming arts and maker cultures juxtaposed with its historical significance in the United States.” So why not showcase Brooklyn to the world.
Instagram is white hot these days in the Social Networking world. If they had an Android version of the application it would probably become a social networking tsunami .
For those of you Instagram users that are also huge music fans, Sony Music has launched a new campaign for “The Vaccines” calling on all Instagramers to be a part of a crowd sourced video for the band. The video is for the new single titled “Wetsuit”, and you submit your photos by tagging them with #vaccinesvideo. Sony Music and The Vaccines are accepting photos shot live at music festivals or photos you have already shot on your phone. All you have to do is tag it and upload it via Instagram. Along with your submission, your photos are being loaded to an online gallery, where you can view all the shots that have been submitted to the contest. From this location, the director will pull all the content and construct the video.
This idea comes from the folks over at Anomaly, and it really takes advantage of how the fans interact with the band, the concert venue, their friends, and the music. Using a popular iPhone application/social network like Instagram is really a genius move. Not only are they crowd sourcing content, they are going viral with it allowing it to spread organically. As of this morning, there were about 450 images that had been posted. It’ll be really interesting to see just how much content they get before it is all said and done.
