Fishhooks

Artist Yoan Capote Has Me Hooked.

This 26 foot long image was created by Cuban artist Yoan Capote with the help of 30 assistants. It is made from 500,000 fishhooks, oil, and nails. Yes 500,000 fishhooks. Not surprisingly the piece took six months to complete. From a distance the image appears to be a contrasty photo of the ocean, but on closer inspection the thousands of intertwined hooks become a whole new experience.

According to Capote, he wanted to create a tension between beauty and seduction and danger and entrapment. Perceptions are challenged as the viewer experiences an unexpected excitement that results from the massive, unending seascape combined with the energy of the thousands of hooks.
