This year at the Sundance Film Festival, a new interactive documentary short film titled “Bear 71 Live ” debuted. Based on the Vimeo trailer that I saw earlier today, this is one of the best examples of digital convergence in media that I have seen.
Bear 71, an interactive, multi-user documentary experience and installation that combines thousand of images captured with motion activated cameras. The whole experience observes and records the intersection of humans, nature, and technology in a live, connected event.Bear 71 is a multi-user, interactive story that blurs the line between the wild world and the wired one we experience every day.
The interactive experience allows users to explore the bear’s natural habitat through an array of motion sensors, live streaming web cams, GPS equipment and an interactive documentary film.
Created by Jam3 and The National Film Board of Canada this is one seriously cool form of convergence media.
“Bear 71 Live observes and records the intersection of humans, nature and technology in a live, Internet connected event. Questioning how we see the world through the lens of technology, this multi-user, interactive story blurs the line between the wild world and the wired one. And it involves an augmented reality app. nfb.ca/bear71“
